I just completed a five-month renovation on my home, including the installation of a new kitchen, and I wanted to recommend a local business named Beagle Tiles, which runs under the ownership of Marcy Pesner. Marcy makes custom kitchens and any kind of storage system you might need, built to your specifications. She helped me transform my kitchen space into a bright, modern and contemporary place. She really did a beautiful job. She has a small team of people who work with her, and collectively they made the cabinets and installed them. She worked with me as I made decisions on wood choice, style, color, glass panels, countertop ideas, tiles, and different kinds of drawers. She made me an amazing pull-out garbage and recycling drawer, a drawer just for my spices, and lovely pull-outs and a pantry. She also made me a series of decorative cabinets to match the kitchen, and a beautiful wooden mantle with her special colored, stained, wood tile inlay in a pattern across the top. Sounds expensive right? Wrong! She is totally reasonable.
As a surprise, she presented me with a shelving unit for a small corner of the kitchen-no charge!  I was griping to her about this one particular space that I wished I had had her build something for, and she came over about two weeks later with this six tiered rounded shelved piece that perfectly complimented the adjacent cabinet, in terms of color and design. My husband and I were thrilled at her thoughtfulness.
In terms of price, although she is a little bit more than Home Depot and Lowe’s, (and not much more, as I priced it first out of Lowe’s) you are getting a product and level of service you would never get with them. She builds it exactly to your space and will make special accommodations for odd spots and tight, non-uniform spaces, as we all know these houses and apartments have. There are also special add-ons that you just won’t get from the big stores. She will bring over samples of woods and stains, and will work with you any way possible.

I am happy to say I had a very successful design collaboration with Marcy Pesner of Beagle Tiles. I wanted to design a toy chest that was also a beautiful, useful piece of furniture for the living room of very special clients. It was clear from reviewing Marcy’s portfolio and visiting her studio that not only did her work reflect the right feeling and style for the home I had in mind, but the quality of the work was unusually high. I loved the idea that I could custom design the colors to be used with Benjamin Moore paint chips of my choice. The biggest plus was the process of nailing down the design details with Marcy. We had very specific ideas about what we wanted for our built-in office, shelving unit, and closet/dresser unit. Marcy quickly understood our vision and was able to deliver just what we wanted. Plus she added the special details that make the pieces unique. We used Beagle Tiles again for radiator covers and she was able to tie the radiators in with the designs of the larger pieces. Our house has totally transformed with Marcy’s work.

She has just delivered a unit for our living room that has exceeded our expectations. During the design process, she listened to our desires and eccentricities and worked and reworked a design until we got a fantastic bar/audio-equipment center/breakfront, which I invite anyone to see. When I decided to do a major renovation on my kitchen, I went first to Beagle Tiles based on several recommendations. I thought I was just hiring a cabinetmaker, but what I got was so much more. Marcy walked me through every step of the process. She provided a beautiful design that I was able to use to get Coop Board approval. She referred me to contractors and electricians and held my hand through the selection process. She informed me about all of the bits and pieces of renovation – what I could expect, what I needed to purchase, etc. Before we even talked about the cabinets, she had already won me over with her knowledge and her attention to details.
When I told Marcy that I had a very specific look in mind, she listened carefully. I wanted a rough look – like a rustic country kitchen. I told her I did not want polished cabinets, but instead unpainted pine. I told her that I loved the furniture at Trailer Park – a local shop where they work with the Amish to create beautiful pieces of furniture. She told me she would work with Trailer Park to create the look I was envisioning.
The finished product was beyond my dreams. Marcy worked with Trailer Park to create the essential structure of the cabinets. Then Marcy took these cabinets into her workshop to make the magic happen. By the time they were installed, they had the exact look I wanted – rustic pine. Even better, she made sure that all the interiors were modern, the fixtures were state of the art and the finish was beautiful and durable. As if that wasn’t enough, she added incredible details like her famous Beagle Tile crown and puck lights, and the final results are stunning.
Above all, Marcy and the Beagle Tiles crew were a delight to have in my home. They are talented, considerate, clean, and easygoing. They were the best part of the entire process. I would recommend Beagle Tiles to anyone embarking on a project like this.

We initially spoke to Marcy because she came highly recommended by PSP readers. After talking with her, seeing her past work online and reviewing a presentation folder she brought over, we felt confident retaining her. It did not take long for us to realize that she is as great as others had said. We built a kitchen from scratch. Her creativity, diligence and ability to work well with the contractor, architect and us was the glue that not only kept this project from falling apart, but also resulted in BEAUTIFUL kitchen cabinets. She completed very difficult shop drawings requested by our architect, and dealt with numerous changes efficiently and timely. She and her crew worked easily together, were professional, polite, loved chatting with the kids, were extremely neat and tidy, and well prepared for any task that would come up when on site. With regard to timing, she told us exactly what to expect time-wise for delivery and installation of the cabinets and met the deadlines that were set. The fact that she is a great communicator is a priceless trait. She will discuss all options until she has a complete understanding of (and helps you decide) what you want on all aspects of a job. After talking through our ideas, she brought several samples of our chosen wood to us that she had stained. They were beautiful – Marcy does all her own staining and it shows! – and it made our final decisions much easier. After installing the base cabinets, we were waiting on countertops that were late being installed and Marcy offered to bring over temporary counter tops on a Saturday morning, so we could have my daughter’s birthday party that afternoon! And when I asked for a garbage and recycling unit that was to be hidden as a pull out, she didn’t even hesitate on saying yes she could do it and proceeded to custom make a pull out garbage bin that not only holds 2 garbage sacks, but also recycling for paper and metal!!!! It is the most wonderful piece that hides recycling and trash. We could not have been more pleased with Marcy’s work. We would highly recommend her and her team for any custom carpentry job.

I just want to offer a plug for Marcy Pesner, proprietor of Beagle Tiles, and a master cabinet-maker. We hired her to build a huge wall of zebrawood cabinets in our new house, and a wall – full of built-in maple bookshelves in my home office…both are just gorgeous and even more functional and better looking than what I expected. Her pricing was as good or better than many other cabinetry companies I had gotten quotes from, both ‘off the rack’ type companies and custom cabinetmakers. She was a great collaborator in the design process, full of great ideas both technical and aesthetic. Her team of employees, who helped build the pieces at her Gowanus studio and came with her to measure and later install, is equally wonderful. I’ve got no connection to Marcy other than being a satisfied customer, but want to recommend her highly.

I TOTALLY recommend that you check in with Marcy Pesner at Beagle Tiles. Contrary to the name of her company, she is a furniture and cabinet maker (she does a small line of wooden tiles too, hence her name.) She did a massive wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinets for us on our first floor and in my home-office, another wall of modern built-in suitcases, including over a doorway. It all looks really fabulous, has held up great in the 2 years or so since her work. Of all the myriad people I dealt with in our gut renovation project, she and her staff were really the best in terms of their professionalism and friendliness. Really nice folks, they did a great job and the price was reasonable. More than you’d pay for some ELFA or Ikea type system, but a whole different animal--custom, specific to your needs and ideas (she will design with you!) and just beautiful aesthetics.
